CITY REGENERATION ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
The World Bank in Washington asked Inspire Nation to lead them in a study of the economic and regeneration performance of Liverpool. In recent decades, Merseyside has suffered from massive unemployment, high crime rates and huge social problems. Today, the region’s economy is one of the fastest growing in the UK, and is creating a dynamic and enterprising environment, alive with opportunity. Liverpool is undergoing a dramatic renaissance, with over £3 billion worth of major developments in the pipeline and an airport now reaching 56 destinations. Regeneration projects are turning the city centre into a place for urban living and working, with the conversion of old warehouses, schools and factories into fashionable loft and office accommodation. The city has also been selected as European Capital of Culture 2008 and has recently received UNESCO World Heritage site status. The World Bank delegates met with the leaders and agents who are spearheading Liverpool’s regeneration programme and learned about the steps the city has taken to recreate both it’s landscape and it’s image. "Liverpool's economy is on the way up - with increasing numbers of new jobs, falling unemployment, and more new investment from small companies and large investors alike. These latest official figures - which are an important indicator of overall economic performance - confirm the encouraging news."
