WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
London Thames Gateway Development Corporation commissioned Inspire Nation to lead a series of studies to successful waterfront developments. Belfast is a city on the up. Massive strides have been taken in the last ten years or so to revitalize, regenerate and renew the city centre and its waterfront, winning acclaim from the OECD ( Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and others. Inspire Nation organised a study tour that focused on Laganside – Belfast’s newly regenerated waterfront area . Impressive new waterfront developments, prime office accommodation, tranquil riverside pathways, and new areas of public realm have combined to refocus Belfast on its original life artery, the River Lagan. In meetings with Belfast City Council, delegates were told how the former industrial city harnessed private sector investment and community involvement to unlock the potential of its waterfront areas. Whilst in Belfast, delegates also met with the Laganside Corporation and AM Developments, the company responsible for the £350m shopping centre scheme in Victoria Square. "Successful modern cities have not appeared by chance. They have all required thoughtful planning and careful leadership to develop their potential. The Development Department seeks to outline a future for Belfast in which all of its citizens have the opportunity to achieve prosperity, and where intelligently planned, integrated growth means that we can all enjoy a balanced, sustainable future that embraces the best of our rich historical legacy."
