WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT

Location: Dublin, Ireland
Date: March 05
Client(s): Office for the Deputy Prime Minister, London Thames Gateway Development Corporation
Study Highlights: Dublin Docklands Development Authority, Dublin City Council, Irish Government

London Thames Gateway Development Corporation commissioned Inspire Nation to lead a series of studies to successful waterfront developments.

In Dublin Docklands, close to the heart of Dublin city, one of the most exciting and clearly focused development projects ever undertaken in Ireland is currently under way. Strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors have regenerated 1,300 acres of prime riverside land, converting what was once a run-down area into a thriving new residential and commercial district .

Dublin Docklands is a world-class example of international best practice, and has achieved social, economic and physical rejuvenation of the area. Inspire Nation arranged for the delegation to meet with the development authority executives, politicians and council leaders responsible for the transformation of the docklands area.

Delegates were also taken on a tour of the Ballymun Regeneration Project , an ambitious £8.5m scheme in north Dublin that has involved the demolition and rebuilding of 2,000 homes to make social, environmental and economic improvements to the area, whilst preserving the existing community .

"We expect the level of confidence in the Docklands to continue… It is expected that 10,000 people will live in the Grand Canal Dock area alone in three years time, while leading businesses such as McCann FitzGerald, O2 and Mason Hayes Curran have announced plans to base themselves in the Docklands." Peter Coyne, Dublin Docklands Authority
